Zürich Spring Festival "Sechseläuten"
The Zürich guilds and the city's people celebrate their traditional spring festival every year with great enthusiasm: Sechseläuten. Over 7,000 participants in historic costumes, 500 horses, 28 music corps, as well as 50 floats and carriages form one of the biggest processions of its kind in Europe. At 6 p.m. sharp, the pyre with the "Böögg", the symbol of winter, on its top is set alight and the mounted guildsmen gallop around the leaping flames to the tune of the Sechseläuten March. The faster the "Böögg's" head catches fire and explodes, the better the summer is supposed to be.
Event starts April 10, 2011 and ends April 11, 2011
