The Masterpieces

An absolute must for anyone who wants to visit the crème de la crème of Amsterdam’s museums is of course the Rijksmuseum. The Rijksmuseum is the largest, most important museum in the Netherlands, with a collection of almost a million objects, among which are many masterworks. The museum’s greatest treasure is probably Rembrandt’s Nightwatch. The building that accommodates the museum is a beautiful monument. It has been undergoing drastic renovation and extension work since 2003. The Masterpieces exhibition is featuring the cream of the crop – the finest masterworks from the Rijksmuseum’s own collection. Here you will find more than four hundred highlights from the Dutch Golden Age: from doll’s houses to Delftware, from shooting associations’ paraphernalia to world-famous paintings by Jan Steen, Frans Hals, Johannes Vermeer and Rembrandt van Rijn.
