Strategically located on the river Scheldt, home to seminal artists, such as Rubens, Van Dyck, one of Europe's most important merchant ports, and the world diamond centre. More recently, the emergence in the 1980s of the Antwerp Six, including influential desighners Dirk Bikkembergs, Ann Demeulemeester, Walter Van Beirendonck and Dries Van Noten, propelled Antwerp to the fashion industry's cutting edge and led to the creation of the ModeNatie and MoMu (Fashion Museum).
