THE MOMU COLLECTION: SELECTION II

Following on from the success of the Achter de Schermen I Les Coulisses I Backstage: Selection I opening show in September 2002, MoMu once again highlights its own collection in The MoMu Collection: Selection II. Several sections of the collection, such as hats, corsages, lingerie and regional costumes, as well as recent donations and acquisitions, are on display. The scenography is by Bob Verhelst, who in the past has already staged several exhibitions for MoMu. The objects are presented on and around specially designed tables. The setting gives visitors the impression they have entered an old department store, a reference to the "˜Old England' shop that at the end of the 19th century occupied the ground floor of the Fashion Museum site. Seated at the tables visitors can study the objects in detail. The exhibition opens with Dirk Van Saene's winter collection 2006-2007 "˜Fashion-Sampling': 7 "˜sampled' dresses, the different parts of each dress referring to various historical periods and styles. MoMu commissioned Dirk Van Saene to further elaborate this concept for a number of artworks, in which he painted items of clothing from the exhibition on top of old fashion stills from different periods. MoMu has also invited a stylist to compose several silhouettes from the museum's historical and contemporary collections: a mix of old and new, a fascinating clash of styles, periods and influences.
