REUNION. From Quinten Metsijs to Peter Paul Rubens
The Cathedral of Our Lady will organise the exhibition, REUNION: From Quinten Metsijs to Peter Paul Rubens. The aim of the exhibit is to reunite masterpieces from the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in the Cathedral. The exhibition has been placed under the High Patronage of Her Majesty the Queen. During its 450-year existence the Cathedral has become a treasury of religious art by renowned masters. Until the French Revolution artists were commissioned with the decoration of pillars, chapels and walls. During these challenging times several altarpieces were transferred to museums. Thanks to the close collaboration with the Royal Museum of Fine Arts, eight of the most remarkable altarpieces of the collection will be temporarily returned to the Cathedral. At the same time as REUNION, the Rockox House will organise the exhibition "˜Gifts of God, private patronage of the Antwerp churches in the 16th and 17th century'. An exhibition focuses on the donations by prominent Antwerp residents to churches.
