Opening of the Stedelijk Museum

Opening of the Stedelijk Museum

After drastic renovation work the Stedelijk Museum, one of the pillars of Amsterdam’s museum world, will be reopening its doors to the public in Spring 2010. The renovation work comprised the complete restoration of the existing building and the construction of a new extension. The renovation has turned the new Stedelijk Museum into the finest combination of a classical museum and a modern platform, and has enhanced Amsterdam with yet another museum, and at the same time a beautiful building. The Stedelijk Museum will use the restored existing building to present its permanent collection; the new extension – which has been dubbed the ‘bath tub’ – will be reserved for exciting presentations of contemporary art. The building’s entrance is in Amsterdam’s famous Museumplein, an architectural achievement worthy of a visit for its own merit.
