Alberto Giacometti at Kunsthaus Zürich
The Kunsthaus Zürich boasts the most important and comprehensive collection of works by Alberto Giacometti in a museum, the collection of the Alberto Giacometti Foundation. This was founded in 1965 thanks to private donations and today possesses 150 sculptures, 20 paintings and a lot of dawings on paper. Many works were presented by Alberto himself.
The Kunsthaus collection begins with early works and encompasses important sculptures which reflect his fascination with Cubism and primitive art. His surrealist phase with its curious and fascinating objects is outstandingly represented. The most significant sculptures from the years 1947 to 1951, characterised by his mature style and his trademark thin figures, can be seen in addition to several of his important paintings.
