Amsterdam Water Sensations
For Amsterdam and surroundings the year 2010 is the year of Water Sensations. Amsterdam and water are inextricably linked. The city was not only founded on water, but water plays a major role still. Boats coast along the ancient canals, but also huge freighters and cruise liners dock around the IJ. Many residents of Amsterdam live along the water and some even live on it. Their beautiful ships and houseboats are moored along the quays and canals.
And in Amsterdam the beach is always nearby: from the city beach of Blijburg to the wide sea beaches of the nearby IJmuiden, Bloemendaal aan Zee en Zandvoort.
Throughout the year events which are linked to water are organized in the capital Amsterdam and show that its citizens utilise their lives on the Amsterdam waterfront to the fullest. From the special boat event SAIL to temporary ice rinks, a winter exhibition with skating scenes, the largest boat show in Europe and contemporary art around the picturesque villages along the water.
Enjoy all the sensational water fun!
