From 29th May until 30th June, El Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia will host the 3rd "Mediterrani" Festival. The Valencian venue’s fourth season closed with a spectacular and innovative staging of 'La Traviata', by the Italian master Giuseppe Verdi, which was conducted by the ever-brilliant Lorin Maazel. The “Mediterrani” Festival is to dedicate its third edition to the role of women in the musical creation and inspiration of composers Richard Strauss and Georges Bizet's, whose `Salome' and `Carmen' form part of the programme, respectively. Zubin Mehta will act as master of ceremonies and conductor of the highly-appraised Valencia Region Orchestra. The festival will also include the voices of tenor José Manuel Zapata and soprano Olga Peretyatko, who will offer two concerts on May 30 and June 12, respectively. Additionally, several films will be screened during June, together with dramatized readings, meetings, roundtables and concerts conducted by the musical director Mehta.
