Demeulemeester Bench, Leopold De Waelplaats

This Antwerp fashion designer has twice diversified into furniture design. This 'crossover' between different applied disciplines is typically Antwerp. A few years ago, on the recommendation of design consultant Luc Vincent, Bulo, the Belgian manufacturer of office furniture, commissioned designers to create a piece of office furniture. Ann Demeulemeester designed a table in this series, which won her the Prize of the Flemish Community in 1996. Her shop is located directly across the road from the museum and next to the large Hippodroom building, a former circus and theatre, and now a new edifice by architect Marc Corbiau and building contractor Vooruitzicht dating from 1998.
