Dates for music lovers

Valencia’s two principal representatives of the world of music, the Palau de la Musica and the Palau de les Arts Music, have released their schedules for the 2010/2011 season, offering a variety and quality of events that strengthen the presence of both entities on the international circuit. The Palau de la Música is to commemorate the centenary of the death of Gustav Mahler with the interpretation of all his symphonies, except the eighth. These concerts are to be accompanied by five concertos for piano by Ludwig van Beethoven, the Valencia Orchestra concert programme, the version for harp of Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez and artists of the stature of Ainhoa Arteta, Rafael Frübeck and Daniel Barennboim, who is to conduct the Franz Liszt piano concerts. The Palau de les Arts, in turn, has scheduled five operas, with the popular Aida by the Italian master Giuseppe Verdi to open the auditorium’s fifth season on 13 November. Other pieces such as Tosca and Fidelio have been programmed for the 4th Mediterrani Festival, together with various concerts and recitals conducted by Lorin Maazel and the young promise Omer Weelber.
