Palace on the Meir
The historical Royal Palace is located at the heart of the Meir, the main shopping street. Built in 1745 as a patrician mansion, it quickly gained the interest of Napoleon, who made it his residence during the French occupation. He redesign the building as his imperial headquarters and decorated the salons, adding a regal touch to walls and furnishings. The palace was also the property of Dutch and later Belgian royalty.
