Anselm Kiefer - prolonged till March 27
This autumn three major Antwerp museum will join forces for a unique exhibition featuring the contemporary artist Anselm Kiefer (born 1945). The exhibition is in fact a selection of his works from the 1980s through to the present. Aside from the more popular themes characterising his work, such as the recollection of memories from his country’s history, the Holocaust and the bewildering aftermath of World War Two, his profound interest in religion, mythology and literature will also be explored.
Anselm Kiefer is a collaboration between Antwerp City Museums, the Antwerp Royal Museum of Fine Arts (KMSKA) and the Antwerp Museum of Modern Art (M HKA). The exhibition marks the first time that a leading post-war German artist will be exhibited on this scale in Antwerp. With the KMSKA undertaking major renovations and no longer exhibiting its permanent collection, the empty building constitutes a perfect backdrop for Kiefer’s monumental works.
Event starts October 23, 2010 and ends March 27, 2011
