Nicolaas Rockox (1560-1640)
Nicolaas Rockox, born in Antwerp in 1560 and played an important role in Antwerp’s political, cultural and social life. He counted many important and influential friends such as Rubens. He commissioned a painting from Rubens, ‘Doubting Thomas’, a masterpiece for his burial chapel in the Friars Minor Church in Antwerp, which no longer exists. However this exhibition has created a virtual evocation of the church and its most important works of art. The Rockox house also shows various portraits of the Antwerp mayor including a painting by Anton Van Dyck. This festive anniversary of the Rockox House will not go unnoticed.
Event starts December 14, 2010 and ends March 27, 2011
