Pop Art at the Albertina
Two major exhibits of 2011 in the Albertina are dedicated to two prominent representatives of Pop Art: Roy Lichtenstein and Mel Ramos. "Roy Lichtenstein. Black & White" starts off the show on January 28, 2011. The exhibit focuses on Lichtenstein's artistic change of direction in the 1960s: in 1961, the U.S. artist, who died in 1997, turned to black and white drawings. Three weeks later, beginning on February 18, 2011, the Albertina will also present "Mel Ramos. Girls, Candies & Comics". This is to date the largest European retrospective of the Californian artist's work, occasioned by his seventy-fifth birthday in 2010.
