Antwerp Central Station
The stone and marble Central Station building is one of the finest in Antwerp - and possibly both the first and the last one that you will see when visiting our city. It was designed by Louis Delacenserie and constructed between 1895 and 1905 as a replacement for the original terminus of the Brussels-Mechelen-Antwerp railway. Its most notable features are the vast dome above the waiting hall and the metal and beautiful glass work construction above the platforms, typical for turn-of-the-century railway station. During large scale reconstruction -which are still under way- the station was converted from a terminus to a through station with excellent transfers to all major cities.
