This fall the Boerentoren celebrates its 75th birthday! To commemorate this festive occasion, KBC Bank & Insurance Group, owner of the tower, and Antwerpen Open are organizing a major cultural touristic event that places the Boerentoren directly in the spotlight. Two exhibitions and a diverse range of extra activities will enable you to experience the concept of height in all its forms. The Rockoxhuis exhibition Towercity will offer historical insight into 500 years of tower building in Antwerp, from the dominance of the church tower to the proliferation of towers adjoining merchant homes. In the "˜birthday tower' itself, a second exhibition entitled Boerentoren & Co will illuminate the circumstances which made it possible for the Boerentoren to become a reality - and why so few other buildings followed its example until well into the fifties. Towers feed the imagination, and more than any other type of building they have become symbols of the permanent changes that have swept the cityscape. And this is certainly true of the Boerentoren.
