Conscienceplein
This beautiful little square in the very heart of Antwerp is perfect for a brief repose during your walks. It is lined by old buildings -which house an exquisite archive which is part of the library- and the magnificent Carolus Borromeus church, a fine example of high baroque if ever you saw one. One side of the square -and this makes the idea of taking a break here really interesting- also features several outstanding -and terraced- small restaurants and bars. The square is named after Hendrik Conscience, a famous Flemish writer whose statue dominates the square and whose works include "˜De Guldensporenslag' and "˜De Loteling'.
