Amsterdam School Architecture

The Amsterdam School of architecture enjoyed its peak between 1915 and 1930 and left its mark throughout the city. Characteristics of the Amsterdam School are the wavy facades and details and the small windows which the architects placed rather high up in the buildings. The most stunning examples of these large-scale urban expansion projects are Het Scheepvaarthuis, Museum Het Schip (the Ship) and De Dageraad (Plan Zuid). Museum Het Schip is dedidated to the Amsterdam School architectural style in a social, political and artistic context. The museum is located in the former post office, which was designed by M. de Klerk. A visit to the carefully designed interior is quite an experience.
