Malick Sidibé
From September 7 until October 27 Fifty One (an art / photography gallery in the medieval centre of the city) hosts an exhibition by the Malinese artist Malick Sidibé, who was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Biennial of Contemporary Art of Venice. This does not only make him the first African artist to receive this honor, but the first photographer in general as well. Sidibé focuses on documentaries and studio portraits and Malinese youth culture is an important subject of his work. The exhibition "˜Los Sabena Club' will include modern prints as well as vintage and previously unseen work.
