Minerva Statue
You can find this statue of Minerva on the glorious riverside promenade that runs along the Scheldt river for about half a mile. Obviously, a stroll along its length is a must for every tourist. The statue was made in 1958 by Marcello Macherini, one the most famous Italian sculptors of the 20th century. Did you know that Minerva is not only the Roman goddess of wisdom and the fine arts? It was also a brand of locally made luxury cars which were about as famous as Rolls Royce between the First and the Second World War. The company is long gone now and the cars that still exist are worth a small fortune.
