"Blüemlihalle" at Zürich's police headquarter
Augusto Giacometti created a colourful work of art that earned the city's stronghold of law and order the nickname "Blüemlihalle" (flowery hall). Giacometti, also known as the great "colourist", painted the vaulted ceilings with rosettes in sparklingly fiery, vibrant hues. As a contrast, for the walls he chose calm, almost static motifs, such as two grape-pickers. The two women symbolise the blessing of the fertile lakeside landscape.
