Museum Mayer Van Den Bergh
For art and antiques lovers this museum is the pearl in the crown of Antwerp museums. The collection gives an overview of almost all the arts and crafts with a substantial collection of paintings, sculptures, tapestries, drawings, stained glass windows and more. The more than 3,000 art objects belonged to collector Fritz Mayer. He assemble in the course of a short period during the 1890s a remarkable collection. These objects are now displayed on four floors of a Neo-Gothic house. The collection includes some superlative works of art, among them paintings by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, ("Dulle Griet" and the earliest of the artist's signed works "The Twelve Proverbs", both in Room 26), Rubens, Jordaens and Quentin Metsijs. Also of great interest are the Flemish and French religious statues.
